Miscellany Monday

miscellany monday at lowercase letters

Tuning in for some Miscellany Monday today!

 { The Paci }
A few days ago, I randomly decided to try the "cut it off" method to the pacifier, snipping the nipple part off and telling him Zia chewed it. Ethan has always only had his paci for naps and sleep at night. In fact, the paci doesn't leave his bed...ever. I was hesitant for half a second while I considered all of the changes coming up, but thought we'd try it, anyway. Maybe he wouldn't miss it! Well...night one, he still wanted the broken paci, and there were a few wake-ups with tears. Night two, between 7:30-10, he was up numerous times, crying. Night three (last night), he was so exhausted, he didn't even care about the thing, didn't mention it, but wouldn't just go to sleep. When I went to leave his room, he'd get hysterical. He finally fell asleep on me, and slept for about 1.5 hours. Then...hysterics. And I mean hysterics. I went in his room, and his whole body was shaking! I grabbed the "emergency paci" out of his dresser drawer, without question, and he didn't seem phased. Held it in his hand, in fact. But...was quiet the rest of the night. So, ah, whatever. Another time.

{ The Appraisal }
I'm not sure what to expect, but hoping we might maybe hear something about the appraisal today. The appraiser was nice. Asked a lot of questions. Wasn't here more than 20 minutes. But none of that really means a thing. The buyer wrote down February 8th as his date to obtain a mortgage by, so, one way or another, something big has to happen this week to tell us what our February 20th fate is.

{ Taking Photos }
Saturday night, I laid on the couch, exhausted, and watched Ethan and Jarrod play for a while. As Ethan begged for a piggy back ride, jumping on Jarrod's back on the couch, I thought, What a great photo that'd be. Too bad I was too lazy to get up and go get my camera. Then, in the same instance, I was sad. I really haven't taken many photos lately at all, and I feel like I'm not documenting our lives well enough. That makes me sad, and it needs to change. For now, this blurry iPhone one will have to do. Aren't they cute?

{ Wine! The alcohol-free kind... }
Shannon made me "dew" it. (Us pregos have to stick together.) And she's reviewing it today! I'd tell you how it is, except Jarrod put it in the freezer so it'd get chilled quickly, and I sort of forgot about it after over an hour...so...it was thawing. ;) I sipped a very little bit and thought it was good! But I'll try more tonight.

  1. Ugh, I'm sorry to hear about your paci experience...we are down to just nights now and our little girl turns 2 in a few weeks, which we have said is when we'll take it away. Dreading it. I hope tonight is better for you!

  2. The "cut it off" method with the paci was the only way to break my son of the paci when he was 2. He was so made it was "broken" he started throwing them away himself and I never replaced them. It was hard at first but it worked!!

    Also, the appraisal should hit the mortgage company desk this week. Even if it isn't by the 8th which was the buyers date for mortgage, you could still close on 2/20. If you have a good mortgage broker and a persistent Realtor that is. I am a Realtor and I've run into situations where everything is finalized the day before closing...even the morning of closing! Just need to stay on top of your Realtor, the mortgage broker and the closing attorney!! =) In today's real estate world, so many things happen down to the last minute!! Stay positive!

  3. I would be so nervous to try to take Nora's paci away right now. She only uses it when she's tired so really naptime and nighttime and a few random times during the day (walks that are near naptime). We tried to take it away from her once and she went completely hysterical so I figure we will wait a little longer to try it. I hope that it gets better with him. And good luck with appraisal and all of that - I know how much it sucks to have to wait especially on house stuff.

  4. My boys never really used the paci. I hope you get good news about the appraisal.

  5. The paci, I think, was one of the hardest things to break Aubrey from. Her paci's started to tear- she was using them to chew on when teething- so we showed her that they were broken, had her throw them in the garbage and that was it. We had a little bit of a rough first night, but we kept reminding her that they were broken and that she put them in the garbage and they were all gone. That was it! Hopefully last night was the worst and that things get better!

  8. I know a girl who told her daughter that she had to give all of her pacis to Santa. They wrapped them up like a gift and Santa left a note thanking her for being a big girl. It totally worked! Maybe you could do something like that with the Easter bunny or something? :)
    Also, I drank that Fre wine when I was pregnant last year for a bachelorette party, haha!
