Sibling Paper Chain Countdown

I waited patiently for our scheduled c-section date for Gabe, and at 33 weeks, we received it. We had an official countdown, assuming Gabe wouldn't doesn't come early. I wanted to have an actual number to count down to. I was looking forward to it.

This past weekend, I thought about how fun it would be to involve Ethan in our countdown, even though he likely wouldn't understand. At least it would be fun, right?

The easiest, most inexpensive, but still fun way, in my opinion, was to do a paper chain. And so...we did.

I busted out the colored pencils, cut up 28 plain, white strips of paper, and let him go to work. Okay...if we're being honest, I did more than he did. A lot more.

We added names in, special occasions that were coming up (Mommy's birthday, St. Patrick's Day), then some "big" countdown days (20 more days! 10 more days! 1 more day!). We added in other random things: springtime flowers on one, swirls, colors, names on others. Some fun days of, "Go get ice cream!" Things like that.

Each day, we tear a chain off. Another day past. And as our chain gets smaller, our excitement grows bigger.

So simple and fun to do for the little ones...and...alright...for Mommy, too. :)

  3. This is cute! Although, I think my son would try to tear them all off at once- after all that hard work :)

  4. Cute idea! I love that instead of just using plain construction paper, you actually put activities or thoughts on the chains! So fun!
